K'gari ANZAC Day Service
Each year a small contingent from the Clayfield Toombul RSL Sub Branch travels to K'gari to attend the ANZAC Day service hosted by the Rotary Club of Brisbane High Rise. Among those attending is a Clayfield Toombul member, Dr Stephen Windley, representing the Army Medical Corps, acknowledging the service of medical personnel and the historic connection to the TSS Maheno, which served as a hospital ship during the First World War.
The Maheno operated close to the shores of Gallipoli, and standing beside the wreck today is a reminder that this quiet stretch of beach on K'gari is only one degree of separation from the history of that campaign.
